Well, I got a new job at the same company, and it’s significantly different from my current one. Mustang for your time

Kinja'd!!!

I accepted an offer to become essentially a technical advisor to marketing and sales. I start mid June, and essentially will be helping sell multi-million dollar business jets. Quite a big change to go from sitting at a computer screen designing stuff as an engineer to giving presentations directly to customers. I’m excited, I enjoy speaking and airplanes are cool, but a bit nervous since it's so different from engineering

Good luck and godspeed! It can be... troublesome for an engineer-type to move into a customer facing role; here’s to you overcoming the stereotype!

Beautiful. I have always preferred the razorback style P-51's to the bubble canopied ones.

I really wish I could come up with a neat P51 vinyl wrap and justify paying for it....

Thanks! I’ve been involved with Toastmasters International for about a year and a half which has gone a long way to developing communication and presentation skills. Plus I’m a little over half way through an MBA program so my business knowledge has grown significantly.

This is true, though I’m not an engineer, just a tech. I run the shop now, and find myself trying very hard to be, shall we say, “diplomatic” in the face of all the customer service stereotypes. It’s also hard to not talk in technical terms, so it’s been good for me to find ways to simplify explanations of vehicle systems and make analogies that people can connect with. I don’t often feel like myself when doing so, but it seems to work.

Awesomeness is its own justification.

Noice. I keep telling myself I should get into that. Maybe next year.

Jump in. It’s intimidating but a lot of fun and the results speak for themselves.

But money spent on a wrap could be spent on so many other things

Congrats on your new position. Most of the oppo posts today are everyone getting a new position or job. I got plenty of condescending rejection emails today for internships for mechanical engineering. I’m tempted to write back with a hefty fuck you.

Old Crow is actually a P-51B (I thought it was a C), and I’ve always been partial to the Spitfire canopy mod.
